Learn: Classes & Consults
We love to teach people about babywearing, and are so excited to offer babywearing classes and private consults in the community.
Classes
We offer three basic classes to learn babywearing.
- Prenatal Babywearing Class: The best time to learn to wear your baby is actually before your baby arrives. We have newborn-sized weighted dolls available at this class so that you can practice. This class covers the basics of safe babywearing from the day you meet your baby.
- Infant Babywearing Class: The next best time to learn to wear your baby is now! This class focuses on wearing babies who aren’t walking yet. We cover the basics of babywearing safety, carrier varieties for different ages newborn to roughly 12 months, and different ways of wearing (front wearing, world facing, hip wearing, and back wearing).
- Toddler+ Babywearing Class: This class is to learn to wear a toddler or child who is older. While they are often easier to get on your body, they are heavier which can put more strain on the wearer, so this class focuses on proper body mechanics and options for wearing toddlers and older children more comfortably.
We also offer special topic group classes. If you want to cover a specific topic more in depth (i.e., special needs babywearing, back wearing, tandem wearing, wearing in pregnancy, or woven wraps), we can put together a class that covers 1-3 specific topics. We do have a minimum number of people that need to sign up for a class in order to hold it, and have found that the best way to be sure the class will go forward is to have a group that would like to do the class together. However, if you don’t know other people interested in taking a class with the same focus that you would like, we will help to fill any spots needed.
Consults
We also offer consults, which are essentially one-on-one mini classes. We will coordinate with you before to make sure we can cover what assistance you need. This tends to be most helpful when you have a specific concern or special circumstances where one-on-one assistance from a babywearing educator is needed. Consults can be as short as 15 minutes, or as long as 2 hours, and are charged by the 15-minute period. While we provide feedback, education, and assistance throughout the consult, the goal is to answer questions and provide hands-on support for the individual in the consult, and they are ultimately led and paced by you (the wearer).
